Very cool little article, thanks for posting it. I just picked up one of these mounts new, in a tabletop style, from Antares. So far I'm impressed with it, had never seen this style of alt-az mount before. It appears to have unlimited travel on it's axes, unlike the AZ3. The tabletop legs are long enough so that I can comfortably view with the scope on the ground. Mine does not appear like it could handle anything more than an ST80 or a 90mm mak, but that's exactly what I got it for. A small, simple, and portable alt-az mount.

Nice article it prompted me to modify with a circular file some astro-steel bits and pieces and make it into a counterweight for the AZ3, ie, I fashioned some pre-existing holes so I could bolt onto the tripod in two places.

Plus lots of other bits and pieces.
