Hi Rich ,

The outside diameter of my Nikon 10 x 42 measures almost exactly 55mm.

The Bushwacker Size 6 is supposed to fit up to 55.9mm. , so that should be the one , I think .

They are ( were ) available from Eagle Optics last time I checked , and were about 6 US dollars EACH -- as in $12 for a set for one binocular .

I recall Brock reported that the flip - away caps could get in the way , and even cause light reflecting off them to intefere with the image quality .

I found the same problem with the attached lens caps on my Helmsman 7 x 50 , so I removed them altogether .

As I think you may remember me saying before , although I do tend to leave them on in their cases , I don't really like lens caps at all -- when I'm using binoculars they either get in the way or need to be constantly removed and re - fitted and when I'm not , the binoculars seem not to suffer too much without them when packed in their cases anyway .

Kenny

I find that the Bushwackers don't get in the way at all if they are aligned to open towards the binocular hinge.

This is the 8x30 E2 with covers flipped up:

Hi Kenny

Thanks for springing back with some info
Did a little research myself and contacted an online chap i dealt with way back who has a few sizes of Bushwackers available
He seems to suggest the size 7 is best fit as it has an internal measure of around 52mm which should stretch ok to 55/56mm according to his mail
But size 6 may also just about stretch ?
I think this was what triggered my query as the sizes could fractionally overlap so to speak
May have to order both and see which is best
Have a feeling Brock did a post summarising all the SE and E11 cap sizes but i'm damned if i can find it
I take the point on lens caps being intrusive but i think the very fact i have to clip them back down to not be in the way saves the objectives being caught
Possibly i'm over paranoid on lenses being scratched etc but the Bushwackers seem to be well made and dont fall off unlike a few normal lens caps i have encountered

Regards
RichT

Hi Rich, Were you only interested in the Bushwacker type covers? When I first got my 10x SE's I really wanted to protect the front objectives so searched about every type of cover you could buy including all the OEM types. I did try the bushwackers and the Butler Creeks. I ended up with the Swarovski tethered caps and they fit as if they were designed for the SE. When they are first fitted they are pretty tight but they work them selves in and stay put really well. I wear the SE on a harness and have run around quite a bit with the caps on. They have yet to come off by themselves.....

Hi Cl Robles

Thanks for another option on the SE's didnt realise the Swaro covers were a good fit
Probably still go with the Bushwackers though as i have bought quite a few over the years from a very good supplier at excellent price in UK
Maybe the Swaro covers fit a few bins ?

Rich ,

I forgot to ask the obvious question !

What is wrong with the Nikon SE objective caps that came with the binoculars ?

Mine happen to be the best fitting lens caps I've ever seen on any binoculars !

Kenny

Hi Kenny

Actually its a fair point
Nothing is wrong with the SE caps and i still have them as new
I just prefer not to carry them loose in pockets or bags etc and have become used to fixed flip up style caps

Maybe the Bushwackers have spoiled me on other bins
One disadvantage of the flip ups is they make bins larger to put away in close fitting cases but overall i do find them good protection
They have been a godsend on Bins with steel or alloy objective rims
