what scope was built for this mount?
      #3388062 - 10/13/09 09:06 PM Attachment (29 downloads)

I aquired this mount thru some trades and was wondering what scope came with it or what scope may work with it ? i do know that it`s a celestron nexstar & the clamp`s id measured at 5-1/2" i ran the go to system on a dry run and it all seems to go to it`s perspective point`s. your thought`s for any input is it worth any investment or does anyone out there need a mount like this, thanks to all.

That is a nexstar mount alright, but I have never seen one with a round clamp before, must be an older model. Normally they have a vixen-style saddle plate on them, which allows you to mount any small scope you want as long as it has a vixen-style dovetail. You can buy replacement saddle plates for many different mounts but I have never seen one for this particular mount before. Can you remove that clamp and see what you have to work with? You can probably get ADM to create a saddle plate that will fit as long as you have a way to mount it.

That's from a Nexstar 4.5" reflector. All the less expensive Nexstar mounts had the tube rings, this one being the largest. The others being the Nexstar 60mm refractor, 80mm refractor and 102mm refractor. The GT series were the better mounts with beefier tripods which included the Nexstar 4 Mak, the Nexstar 5, and the Nexstar 8. Not until the SE series were they equipped with a Vixen style dovetail saddle and the less expensive refractors and reflector turned into the SLT series without the tube rings.

I have a Nextstar mount that I got to use with my Lunt solar scope. It was the one packaged with the 60mm refractor and has a standard Vixen style saddle and tubular steel tripod legs. The 60mm scope and accessories ware pretty much junk and I tossed them.
