ZS66 first/second/third light new
      #3388499 - 10/14/09 01:57 AM Attachment (19 downloads)

Well, I lied, it's more like 3rd/4th/5th light as my first was the moon just to get some focus zeroed in, and the second was Aldebaran. But that same night I took some other pics. I usually don't pose my images because they're just not that good, especially when blown up to the nasty proportions they tend to be, but these I'm quite happy with, especially when they're tiny in size. Just makes everything look so nice and sharp : )

All are taken with the WO 66SD at f4.7 (0.8x reducer), using a Canon 450 unmodded, 30 second frames at ISO 1600. Wanted to go deeper but left my remote at school. Mount is an Orion Astroview EQ with a homemade adapter to attach the scope.

First off is M45, 8 frames, cropped from widefield, stacked and processed in CS4. The Canon seems to have some vignetting and red leakage even in the crop...

Oh wow, that attachment is pitifully small, but even that is at the size limit CN allows....

Ok, so here's number two. M42/M43 and NGC1977. 12 frames, stack/process in CS4. 4x color, 4x Ha, 4x OIII, give it that nice color.

And finally (I really love this one). M31/M32/M110 system, 16 frames in CS4. Yeah, I know there's still some vignetting, though cropping helps somewhat.

I would if I could, but I don't have any sort of account for that (except for facebook). Maybe I should start a gallery here...

Those look pretty good! Have you tried any shots without the reducer? It may be causing some of the vignette. Otherwise, a good set of flats should help tremendously!

Timer? My first astro pics were with the standard cable release, and me sitting there with the kitchen timer...

Very nice! You are going to like imaging through the ZS66 - a lot! Shooting "T" shirt flats will solve the vignetting - and yes the reducer is the cause but it does make the corners better. There are LOTS of objects that just fit in the FOV nicely with this scope.

I poped Mobius1's images on my server at a medium resolution - you can see them here:

- M45
- M42
- Andromeda

There is some good dust detail in andromeda there!

Yeah, I already love imaging with it... I mean, how couldn't I after just clicking on M31 a few times and getting that image? Problem is, I think I'm going to run out of objects soon enough. I can think of maybe 15 DSOs that are good targets, especially with my level of LP.

The first time I setup the scope, I did not have the reducer on actually, however I could not get the think to focus with my Canon. I really didn't want to hang a diagonal off of there either.
