Good review, Charles. My own experience with the book matches your comments. And I second the recommendation. Anyone interested in double stars should own a copy.

DOUBLE STARS FOR SMALL TELESCOPES
I think for finding them, the coordinates are enough for me, but for a companion, the Cambridge Double Star Atlas might be helpful as well. Clear skies to you.

I too would recommend this book. I've been using it for a couple of years and I love it.

Nice write-up Charles. This is one of my favorite double star resources. It is particularly useful for folks who either use a GOTO mount with "slew-to RA and Dec" capabilities (like any Celestron Nexstar-equipped mounts) or digital or old fashioned analog setting circles.
I'm a GOTO user myself since the new job is grinding me 70+ hours per week and observing sessions have become VERY short of late. Using Haas' book and a Nexstar-equipped GOTO mount, I can easily cruise through and observe six or seven interesting doubles in a half hour.
Were I hopping from a chart the dimmer targets in crowded fields would cut my half-hour yield down to just one or two targets.
Regards,
Jim

This is a great book if you are a person who wants access to a lot of information without going through a lot of fluff to find it.
The first sentence of the review expresses my opinion exactly. I have the Cambridge Double Star Atlas too, but find Sissy Haas' book more accessible because she lists doubles by constellation, not by RA (although the CDSA does provide a comprehensive table of "showpieces" listed by constellation, and the maps are quite excellent). I still prefer Haas' treatment, though - but only by a whisker. (Sorry - couldn't resist it)...

That "thump" you hear is me jumping on the bandwagon;-)
I like this book and use it for going through a constellation and enjoying a fine selection of double stars. Some wide and easy with color, some tight and difficult. But a fun selection for each constellation.
I like the layout and as the reviewer said, the comments are helpful. Seeing as how I am now using my TV 102 often, it is nice to have the same aperture as the author.
This is definately a "desert island" astronomy book to have and use.
Clear skies; Steve Coe

Nice review. Your price label reads $2.99. Where did you get a copy for that low price?
