How old is the Meade LX90-EMC?
      #3392188 - 10/15/09 11:43 PM

Hey guys, I've been a lurker on CN for many months now but its time to ask a question;

I am considring purchasing a used LX90-EMC. Can anyone tell me the approximate time frame when Meade was manufacturing this scope? There isn't a user manual specific for the LX90-EMC on Meade's website, but the user manual for the LX90 is copyright 2000 and the manual for the LX90-LNT is 2004 so I'm guessing its sometime in that range. The LX90-GPS is 2006 so I think its not that new as this scope is without GPS.

Thanks for all that you've already taught me and for any insight you can provide.

Gavin

If I'm not mistaken, it was manufactured 2001-2002, POSSIBLY very early 2003...

Welcome to Cloudy Nights, Gavin. I think you've got a pretty good take on the approximate age of your LX90. Maybe Rod Mollise will chime in soon. This sort of question is right up his alley.

Unfortunately not.... However, the LX200 my father purchased when I was a child (maybe 15 years ago) works fantastic. I'm not so sure about the workmanship of Meade during these years ('01 & '02), but my Pops still uses his scope on a weekly basis... Despite the age, if you treat the LX90-EMC (as with any manufactured scope with a decent reputation) with respect, it should last you a looooong time and provide you with countless hours of amazing viewing! I tried looking more up on the net, but I can't find much else... Sorry, Gavin. However, I wouldn't underestimate any manufacturer if you just take care of your scope... Best of luck to you

Thanks again. I didn't end up buying the scope. It was on ebay and the guy said it was just over 2 years old. Everything I found about it online made it sound 7 to 9 years old, just like we thought. I figured if they guy was misrepresenting the age then what else was he misrepresenting?

Yeah, that's a good call. No use making an expensive mistake.
