Hello everyone. Yes, believe it or not I won at Bingo. $5000 jackpot to be exact YYippeee.. I wanna go CCD camera shopping. I have a 12 lx200 ACF f/10. I am willing to spend it all on the camera so I can get the best quality for that price. Any recommendations?

Lol congrats. I hear Canada has taxes, you might want to put some of your winnings away to cover that before figuring your budget I assume you already have a wedge and have done PEC? what are your imaging goals?

Heck with 5 Grand in your pocket I'd start thinking of getting an observatory...
Honestly I could have almost built 3 observatories with 5 grand.. just think no more lugging equipment outside, no more setup time, and no more lugging equipment back into the house/garage whern you finish for the night...

Do you already have a wedge and a guidescope/OAG? If you figure on getting into AP, you'll want to set aside some of your winnings for these if you don't already have them.

Hi i agree with bob, if you have the room and your serious enought to be thinking about purchasing a high end ccd then to get the most out of your scope time, you will definatly benifit having your scope housed in a observatory. From experience of moveing around my friends lx200 12" and my own 10" lx200gps both of which are in my opinion to heavy to lugg aroung by one person, the benifit is especially true, when you concider the scope setup time needed for excellent ccd image resaults ,which once done on a permanant pier needs only slight serviceing every 2month or so. well thats my pennys worth anyway, Heck your so lucky you'll probably win an observatory ....lol concrats on the win. regards ian

I would rather spend 5 grand on an observatory than a CCD camera. I have been lugging my LX250GPS around for over ten years and it is getting harder and harder to do it as I get older.

Wow! That's quite exciting! I would love to have an observatory all to myself. I agree with Ian, please update us with your project. Although some of us apartment dwellers can't have an observatory, it sure is great to see a fellow astronomer fulfill that dream
