Is there anyone in the house that can suggest other CCDs that are similar in price, and quality of this camera? http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~category_id=astro-imaging_camera/~pcategory=astroimaging/~product_id=52080

Nope, for the money, the Orion StarShoot Cams are about the best possible CCD's you have a choice of..actually,other than a USED Meade DSI,there is no other choice. They are terrific cams.Have decent cooling, and are fairly sensitive. I used the SSII Mono for a while. It is now my Guide Cam.It has yet to not find a star for me anywhere I have pointed..
The mono version will produce higher quality images. But it is also 4x the work and twice(or more)the cost of the OSC(one shot color) version when you add in Imaging Filter(LRGB) and a filter wheel..but,worth it in the long run..personally,I think I will always keep a Mono cam around.
IMHO...these little guys cant be beat.for the money.

I agree, that's a great deal on a really nice camera.

Based on the reviews and photos I've seen taken with the model I've mentioned, I totally agree with you. However, Orion and their vendors are always backordered. The were suppose to available Friday, October 9th. Now they will not be available until November 13th........This waiting game is killing me.....

I do hate that game....
Have you checked sites like Astromart? You may find a used one for even cheaper.. I bought my SSII-Mono there for $225 shipped.I dont even think it was ever used either... They pop up here on CN's classifieds, and in the Shop & Swap forums on occasion...but cams move in out of AstroMart like they are going out of style..some more than others.
Good luck!! CS!
