Andromeda, The Princess
      #3394260 - 10/17/09 09:40 AM Attachment (33 downloads)

Here's a wide-angle shot of the constellations of Andromeda and Triangulum.

A higher resolution version can be seen here:

http://www.astropix.com/HTML/SHOW_DIG/Andromeda.HTM

It is a composite of 2 four-minute exposures taken with a 35mm lens on a Canon 20Da DSLR working at f/4 at ISO 1600.

One frame was shot with a fog filter and one without.

These constellations point the way to two of the showpiece galaxies in the northern sky, M31 and M33.

I also have a mouse-over with constellation lines and identifications for the objects in the image.

Jerry

Very cool Jerry. In these days of Goto, I never really know where I'm looking. Gives a great perspective on some nice targets.

Thanks Jerry - constellation photos are great!

I learn something every time I look at one - NGC752 in this case. I've looked at it through binocs but never paid too much attention. Looks like a good color contrast open cluster target.

I appreciate your effort; this is a great photo. I look at that area with my 20x110’s. The only thing that I find hard to see is M33, It’s there, just really hard to see. I hope to one day be able to take a wide field shot like that.

Hi Bill,

You must be in an area with a lot of light pollution.

I don't have any trouble seeing M33 with 10x50 binoculars from our observing site with a NELM of about 6th mag and an SQM reading of 20.7.

Last month it was visible naked eye at Cherry Springs, whose skies are 21.72 on the SQM.
