Assembling a 10" f/5 Newtonian OTA for visual use
      #3394363 - 10/17/09 11:04 AM

I'd be grateful for comments on my intended choices. I have a 12.5" f/4.8, and find the mass too much for my old body on casual observing nights. I calculate a "full thickness" (1.67") 10" mirror weighs just over half as much as a full thickness (2") 12.5".

Current eyepiece collection: 10mm Radian,14mm Radian, 2x 1.25 Barlow, 32mm Plossl, 26mm Nagler

Proposed components:
10" f/5 Parks primary
2.14" Protostar secondary, with 3-vane spider
Protostar flocked tube, 11.4" ID
Moonlite 2" focuser
Mirror cell ???

I picked a 2.14" secondary over 1.83" to get 75% illumination of the 26mm Nagler field. But I'd rather have a smaller (<20% obstruction) secondary.

I ran this through Newt and Jim Fly's online design page.

Can someone can point me to a commercial source for a PLOP-based 6-point cell for a 10" mirror? I know PLOP shows 3 points is enough...
