Taking advantage of the first clear sky since May, I managed to get the new project ready for a test. It's not complete, but things were well enough together to get a look a Jupiter. It was obvious I still have some collimation details to work out, but it's also obvious that at about F9, it's going to be a fine planetary instrument.

There are some glaring problems, not the least being the tripod. It's simply not big/sturdy enough. Would not hurt if it were shorter, either.

The mount is working out, but is unfinished. The "brake" shown in the middle works quite well. Don't have one for the other axis yet.

Congratulations...your new scope appears to be coming along quite nicely. I have a question, tho. I'm about to build the OTA for my scope and I intend to build an octagonal wood tube. Could you tell me how yours is constructed?

If you will look at the thread "Rita" you'll find construction details. I should have appended all this onto that thread, but forgot about it.
