I've been trying to figure out a good eyepiece projection system that can work with my XSi. I've seen the Scopetronix products and Hyperion's, not sure which is better. I own an Orion variable universal camera adapter, but can't even get my smallest 1.25" eyepieces to fit inside.
My intent would be to use the SLR in movie mode to capture planetary and lunar images.

It has live view and there is a program floating around out there that captures the live view as video.

rg55, the Orion Highlight Plossl eyepieces will fit inside of their universal camera adapter.

Oh yeah...the third party. I thought I was going crazy that I didn't know about a native movie mode.

I can't tell you which is better, but I own the Hyperions, bought the adapter, and have played around with EP projection a little with them. I'm just getting started, but they seem to work quite well.

So, does anyone have a link to the live view capture software?
I just bought a Rebel XS which has live view. I was thinking of using the continuous shooting mode since this one does not have a native video mode. But I discovered that continuous shooting also mean the mirror is continuously clackety-clacking up and down! And none of the mirror lockup stuff, or use of live view, helps that. I would have thought that, since live view locks the mirror up, continuous shooting would not move the mirror. But that's not the case, even when mirror lock is enabled.
So I'd love to give that software a try if anyone can point me to it.

Hi
If you have Images Plus software, it looks like you'll be able to save your live view as a sequential bit map. Also, I tried the link, but the website wants to install an add-on.

I was able to get to the website without any add-on. Used Google to translate it from Russian, downloaded the app, tried it, and it works great! Thanks, Richard!
Paul:
I checked out Images Plus and choked on the $209 price. I may want it at some point for all the other features it offers, but for now, the free one works for me.

Thanks, Bryan. I don't have one of those, maybe I should get one? I was a bit surprised to learn that none of my other 1.25" eyepieces would fit inside the Orion unit.
My plan is to also up the magnification using the Live View 5x mode if the atmospheric conditions are right.

Dan! You slacker, not reading in NexStar part of the forum
I was using 450D with LiveView for my Plato challenge (craterlets).
The program is called EOS_MOVREC. It is available for Windows and Mac. Any LiveView equipped camera will work, but at different resolution for each model.
Attached is my Plato from September. If you have a problem downloading or using eos_movrec for either platform, let me know.
Also here is the thread for LiveView video and making of this iamge.

I'm so ashamed!
You know how it is, when you're not doing AP, you tend to brush over the details in those posts. Now that I have a DSLR, I'll be paying more attention!
The site I downloead EOS Movrec from did not seem to have a Mac version. I use a Mac, but I tried it out use VMWare Fusion so I was running Windows on my Mac. It worked fine that way, but I certainly would prefer to run it natively on the Mac. Do you have a link to a Mac version?

There we go Mac EOS_MOVREC. I also used windows version through Parallels and it worked fine. But just like you Dan, if there is a Mac version, I do not see why not use it.
The guy also includes the source code. For more technically inclined check out the entire repository: Sourceforge EOS_MOVREC

This thread has wandered off a bit from my original intent. Can I hear from others who are experimenting with eyepiece projection, and what has worked for them?

I have a Scopetronix Maxview II DSLR adapter and love it! It can be used for either 2" or 1.25" EPs, though the smaller ones tend to vignette as they are placed far from the camera sensor. I like to use either the WO SWAN in 40mm or 33mm, the Orion Deepview 42mm, or a Meade QX 38mm. I'm sure if you can get a large Televue Panoptic, the results would be even better. Regardless, I love that setup, and the distortions are quite minimal (and those that are, easily corrected in post process). Only drawback is the weight, which is just fine on the 24", managable on a C11, but unusable on any fork mounted SCTs.
