Thanks! I have a SAC 7B and a ST-7E but I find I enjoy sketching much more! I still do photometry but I am hoping to expand my art to painting from my CCD images. I too am looking forward to seeing others talents!

Paul,

You might be interested in the method used by Roland (rolandlinda3) and his wife Linda.
They sketch from a live video stream presented on a monitor attached to an astro-video camera.
Roland and Linda post their sketches in this forum as well.

Samuliko,

Welcome to the forum.

Thank you for posting your first sketch.

Your telescopes should offer you plenty of targets to sketch from.

Hi to all, I am new to this forum though not to astronomy. I moved to Connectict last year from Italy where I have observed planets for nearly 15 years. Since there are so many good imagers, I kept drawing and I hope this is the right place to share opinions and experience about visual observation and sketching. From time to time, I also like sketching deep-sky objects when I can get a good telescope. I am not an artist in any way, just an astronomy enthusiast. I think I could introduce myself with a few old sketches (and a new one), hoping this is not against the rule of the forum.

I forgot to mention that the previous sketck was made with a Meade Starfinder 8 (200/6), 240x, no filters, seeing III-IV (Ant.) at my parent's house near Verona, Italy.

Here is attached the sketch of a deep sky object, NGC 1973. I made it a few years ago with a dobson 500/4, not far from where I made the drawing of Jupiter but at 1,200 meters above sea level. The original was black on white, I simply reversed the colours and the result looked really nice.

Just want to say thanks to everyone for sharing their first, or near first astronomical sketches. I hope more amateurs will consider sketching as an alternative to AP. Years down the line you will just relish looking at those old sketches.

I would like to reiterate that we have a great downloadable observation data sheet we use. You can download a copy from the homepage of our website (see the link below).

Break out that sketch pad, Mickey! Reflecting back on your sketches is quite rewarding.

Ok. So after trying several times to post my sketch and seeing something wrong with it in the process, here it is.

Constructive criticism is very welcome! Although I haven't been on this forum long enough to know if this is the correct thread for those types of comments.
