I have a Windows OS and have Remote Desktop. I can connect to my laptop from my desktop through the remote desktop. It's not hard to configure. I followed instructions provided by the Microsoft website.

Rick,
Use "VNC for Windows" or other VNC derivatives.
BTW, webcam output to a PC is really a continuous image acquisition, not necessarily called "video".

i have been doing some research into this subject as well. there are many products on this website that may be of interest: www.svideo.com
i asked them directly what do i need to actually transmit the live video over my network and they came back with this
>> It's expensive, but thus is what you need;
1 encoder that connects to your router 2 software decoder if accessing the vieo through computer 3 decoder if connecting from network to tv 4 ir wireless keyboard to program decoder.
Our IPTV products are at http://www.svideo.com/avip200.html >>
some interesting choices there. one simple choice to consider is a video "balun". allows you to transmit the video signal directly over a long ethernet cable. this is intended for a direct long distance connections. the pricey solution above is based on using a video server on your network.
one other choice.. broadcast the mallincam output from the laptop to one of the video streaming websites -- like zaplive.tv. then just tune into your own channel and watch it from the desktop...
good luck
