M33 in Triangulum
      #3396050 - 10/18/09 11:44 AM Attachment (38 downloads)

Here's my latest M33.

9 x 10-min subs were taken over 4 nights, this year and last, at ISO 1000 with an unmodded EOS 40D, C8 and focal reducer at f/6.3. Guiding was manual, off-axis. The lights, darks and flats were registered and stacked in DeepSkyStacker, Curves adjusted in Canon Photo Professional, and finally noise/banding reduced with Noel Carboni's tools in Photoshop Elements.

Thanks for looking.

Nice image. The manual guiding look great, with round stars.

Very nice - a bit green on my monitor, for some reason.

Thanks for the comments, s58y and Javier.

Last year I bought a new guiding eyepiece with an adjustable reticle, which makes off-axis guiding far easier. I can now usually find a guide star and put the reticle over it without moving the subject away from the centre! Previously, subjects could end up in the vignetted area around the edge if I wasn't careful.

I'm still convinced guide stars are getting fainter over the years, though!

Regards, and clear skies!

Thanks for the comment, David.

It's probably not your monitor! I always use an Astronomik CLS for deep sky subjects - although I realise they're not ideal for galaxies, I don't like a bright orange background I'd get without it. I can correct the colour balance in post-processing, but maybe I was a little too conservative in doing so in this case.

This is hopefully a little better:

Regards.
