IC410 and The Tadpoles new
      #3395612 - 10/18/09 03:26 AM

Here's my shot at this area in Auriga. I was hoping for at least 3-4 hrs but a late start 3.30am! and high cloud at 5am put an end to anything further.

16x5mins at iso800, 15 darks,bias, no flats. Temp down to a chilly 1.5C
C9.25 with Antares f6.3 FR, modded 450D w/UHC filter on EQ6 Syntrek mount w/EQMOD guided by PHD and Meade DSI.

I'm fairly happy with the colour, here's 1/2 hr of post processing in PS and using NC tools.

Image could be deconvoluted and slight gaussian blurr applied later.

C+C welcome!

Cheers
Kevin

Nice closeup shot, with lots of red signal.

If anyone want a go at reprocessing I've uploaded the final stacked TIF from DSS. Also it's slightly cropped at the edges due to vignetting from the 6.3 FR.

I'd like the red toned down a bit, but not to lose any of the detail or clarity, but as this is from a modded cam with UHC filter the red signal is overpoweringly strong.

See what you can do.

Here's what I did with what you had posted.
A little contrast, a little color balance, some unsharp and Noise Ninja.

Looks nice. Do you have an identifier for the tadpoles themselves?

Hi Gary

I like what you've done with it, especially keeping the background contrast dark against the red of the nebula.

How did you expose/contrast the red whilst keeping the dark background? Layers?

Kevin, No masks used this time. Mostly the contrast curve (very slight 'S'), and color balance (added mid green and blue) provided this result. The unsharpen cleaned it up a bit, and the Noise Ninja removed the noise from these steps.
I highly recommend you look in to GradientXterminator as I rely on this for early stages of color balance (and saving my bacon when I don't shoot flats).

Gary

If you don't mind running through it step-by-step for me.
I'd appreciate that.

I don't see a contrast curve with my PS CS3 for starters, only the level and curves function has a curve to manipulate??

I assume you start with basic levels and curves adjustment right?

Kevin, Sorry I had to get ready and leave for work (ugh.. Monday morning blues...).
From your new thread I'd say you figured it out rather well!! Excellent job on the reprocess!!
