EQ-X Mounts...How to tell which one you have? new
      #3394850 - 10/17/09 04:01 PM

Could someone discuss the EQ-X specs...what makes a EQ-1 versus a EQ-2, etc.?

Pictures of each version would be great.

Thanks

Try typing EQ-1 mount, EQ-2 mount...HEQ5 mount... etc., into Google Images and then click on images. You will find many pictures of each. The nomenclature can differ between resellers but you'll be able to figure that out.

Here's a picture of the inexpensive EQ4 with a 90mm scope. In the background is an EQ3.

EQ - 4 and 90mm

Let me know if you can get Celestron or Orion to sell you one of these.

thanks

Dangit! I always get messed up when I post a URL.

Here I'll try it again.

I love this family friendly place. Since my grandkids moved in three years ago I have learned to say "dag nabbit". Try that when you hit your thumb with a hammer.

Looking forward to more follow up I have always wondered what makes an EQ-2 as opposed to EQ-3 etc.

That is why I am asking...I am looking for the "industry standard" that tells one how one differs from the other.

Especially in the weight and OTA length ranges.

Thanks

I asked the same question a long time ago and I have since learned that there is no industry standard for these classifications. There also does not seem to be any way to tell what the weight capacity is by class as mounts that are considered within the same class have different numbers in their specs. Anyway, someone gave this to me as a guideline that I have used, with the understanding that it is not exact.

EQ-1
EQ-2, CG-3, Vixen Polaris
EQ-3, CG-4, Astroview, Vixen Super Polaris
EQ-4, EQ-5, CG-5, Skyview Pro, LXD55/75, Vixen Great Polaris
HEQ-5, Sirius, Losmandy GM-8
EQ-6, Atlas Losmandy G-11 (Losmandy & Celestron CGE may exceed the capacity of the others listed)

Keep in mind that this is from a while ago and I have not verified it. Things may have changed since then.

Single eyepieces: 32mm & 7.5mm Orion HL Plossl, 26mm Meade S5k Plossl, 6mm & 4mm B/TMB Planetary
