How many members will be attending the Mid Atlantic Star Party in Robbins, N.C. from October 12th through the 18th coming soon? The Dark Park location is advertised to have some of the darkest skies on the east coast! Their website is masp.us and you are able to pre-register now. Enjoy!

I must have placed this entry under the wrong category, since there have been no replies yet. Well, I hope that I will get to see some of the CN members, along with their advanced mounts, ota's, etc. Hopefully the weather conditions will cooperate all week.

There are two people going in the star party forum at the end of the list and I answered one too awhile back that I can't find now, So that's at least four of us, minimum.
Anyway, here's to clear skies like last year I hope.

I did a google search of restaurants in Carthage. Looks like the German place is closed? Never got to try that one.
Any locals care to recommend a good place? Thanks

Chris' Family Restaurant: I ate there 2007. Decent
Peking Wok Chinese Restaurant: every year!
Pik N Pig : never tried it
Dog Nation Grill : never tried it
Whispering Woods Cafe : never tried it.

I'll be there--not sure which night (or nights) I'll be attending, though.

I'll be there the whole week. I've gone for the past 9 years and have always had a great time. I hope we have clear skies every night like last year. If you want nice restaurants you'll have to head down the road about 15 miles miles to Pinehurst. The Village has about anything you'll want for food. Cee Yaa there.

It's dark. For comparison it isn't as dark as Spruce Knob, WV or Pettigrew State Park but pretty dark. What effects/affects conditions is moisture content and wind direction. Some years we get wicked dark, clear skies and others maybe only one or two nights. Typically, though you usually get two nights of good viewing even if the weather is dodgy. Don't know about this year. Looks like the entire week is disappointing from FL up to VA next week. Oh well, these past two years have been some of the worst weather for astronomy that I can remember in more than ten years. Guess we need to put those rocks back on the Moon!

I have no idea how many people are preregistered but we usually get, in round numbers, at least 80 folks each year.

I sure hope this forecast changes like most of them do.

I'll be there! Arriving probably Friday morning. It looks like there will be daytime observing, so I'll be taking my H-a binoculars - PSTereo vision !

Hello,

I'm here in Pinehurst and the rain is still coming down. The forecast doesn't predict clear skies until Sunday. I hope that all clears tomorrow, it's a very nice location with stellar individuals. Maybe all vendors will arrive with great deals also! Will try again tomorrow.

Too bad it's been cloudy/rainy all week. MASP is usually the highlight of my astronomical year. Still, I may try to visit this afternoon (sans scope) to check out the vendors. Does anyone who's there know if the vendors are still there, or have they all given up and left, too?

"I hope that all clears tomorrow . ."

It did clear on Friday night at about 9, ruining my collimation talk just as I was approaching my climax. Someone came running in, excitedly stating "the stars are out there" and everybody headed for the exits.
There were two multi-hour periods of clarity that night, and the later one (that I missed) was reported to have outstanding seeing.
