The Orion Atlas is better, for example the LXD75 cannot realy cope with its own 10" SNT very well at all, the Atlas is easily capable of handling it!

It might be useful to know your budget, requirements and intended uses for a mount, really.
Having that information will assist others in responding with actual practical advice and suggestions.

The Atlas is bigger, anyway. If the user requires the extra capacity then the LXD75 won't do. If he doesn't require the additional capacity then the LXD75 has advantages (portability, superior controller, etc.). If the poster plans to use it without an external PC the very limited dedicated controller on the Atlas would be a disadvantage. If he needs the additional capacity but wants to use the mount without a PC a CGEM would be a better choice.

Thanks for the replies so far. I intend to use the mount primarily for AP and visual occasionally. I will currently be using it with my DSLR and lenses but, will eventually be purchasing a scope as well. I am still unsure of the specific scope I will be getting but, it will be a small/medium APO. Most likely a Meade series 5000 127 or Orion EON 120ED.

Of your two choices, I would go with the Atlas, particularly with a medium sized refractor. However, the CGEM or Losmandy GM-8 might be a better choice. If you're budget constrained, a CG5-GT could work. With Celestron's polar alignment routine, it becomes a lot easier to get up and running during an imaging session.
For pure DSLR astrophotography with camera lenses under 200-300mm focal length, you might also consider a Vixen GP2 mount with single RA axis drive and polar axis scope. You should be able to image unguided for a minute or two with shorter focal length lenses. That setup is very portable. However, the upgrade path to imaging with a telescope is a little more expensive with that setup.

Look at a Losmandy GM8. They are worth three times what they cost. Many good deals on the used market.
Check out Phil Harrington's review in Starware.

Thanks again for the replies. After doing more research and getting some feedback I have eliminated the LXD-75. I am now looking primarily at a CGEM or Atlas. From the reviews I've read, the CGEM sounds like it will suit my needs. However, I still don't fully understand the differences between it and the Atlas. From what I understand, the CGEM is just the latest version of the same mount.

With either of these scopes and with imaging in mind, there is only one choice; the Atlas. The LXD is a good mount, but the combination of weight and the leverage produced by the big refractors, the LXD will be overtaxed.

Another vote for the Atlas I’ve owned one for about a year now and I can’t fault it and it’s great with the ASCOM.
