NGC 6888 Crescent Nebula with EON 72mm
      #3398337 - 10/19/09 03:48 PM Attachment (14 downloads)

Hi Folks. Thought I'd give NGC6888 a go with the EON after getting in close with the CPC925. I think I like the EON version better. This was shot last night before the fog and clouds whited out the world.

This is 1hr and 39min of 3 minute exposures with the modded Canon XTi @ iso1600 through the EON 72mm @ f4.8 with the IDAS LP2 filter, piggybacked on the CPC925 on the Mitty wedge, guided with SSAG through the CPC. Stretched in PixInsight and tweaked in Photoshop.

Comments and suggestions welcome. Thanks for looking.

Pretty clean shot you got there Nick. All the stars and wisps of red are very nice.

Nice!
That Eon72 looks like a good little scope.

I think I'm putting a Canon Rebel on my Xmas list this year to complement my mono CCD, you guys are all throwing up some amazing pics with them.

Nice. You even managed to capture some of the faint background nebulosity, without using an H-alpha filter.

Nick, that looks pretty good, I too like the background nebulosity that is starting to poke through. Did you get a chance to try out the new Polar align routine?

Thanks everyone. I was lucky to squeeze this in last night.

Psyire - Yes, I forgot to mention, I updated my hand controller and use the All Star Alignment this weekend. I had to align a few times Saturday until I got the routine down. So far I'd say it gets me to where I was before with aligning at about 20% of the time and effort. I think I'll have to drift align on top of it, which I didn't do this weekend. I'm glad I did the update, because it's quite a slick little method. Getting the right stars in the right parts of the sky I think will also be important to its accuracy.

Nick, I got just go home from work and got to look at the large image. WOW LOTS of stars! But I have to ask about the blue ones... That seems a bit of an artificial color, or is it my monitor?

Yes I think your right Gary, now I'm looking on a better monitor. I did it all on the laptop monitor, so blue was....blue. I'll probably give it another go from scratch on a better monitor. I've got a few images from Sat. night I want to play with first.
