Dew Shield Type
      #3398906 - 10/19/09 08:34 PM

Think the first thing I need to get is a shield and a heater.
I have read all the old posts, trying to decide whether to get one of the wrap around ones or the screw in ones. There doesn't seem to be a major difference.

So I was thinking of this for the shield:

And this for the heater:

Can I check if they seem okay please?

Thanks,
Simon.

Hey Simon,

I used a home made flexible dew shield for a while on my ETX-125 but when it got moist it lost its shape, and I eventually went with a commercial style. Although I use metallic shields with dew straps on my other scopes, I always thought a flexible shield made sense with the 125. Combined with a dew strap, it should work well for you.

However, I do not now practice what I preach by utilizing a "screw in" plastic firm shield. Problem with this type of shield is that the thread pattern is not deep at all, an so it has a tendancy to "pop off". I've remedied this by applying a once around wrap of plastic electrical tape.

The solid shield works well too. Below please find a link:

I'm sure this is available in the UK too.....

Use a closed cell foam camping mat, it's an excellent, easily worked material & plenty stiff enough to work even on an 11" or 14" SCT tube. Far, far better than any of the commercial offerings, and a lot cheaper too.

i think both of those you looked are perfect. I have the orion flexshield. It works perfect. As for my dew heater I have the orion dew heat band with the dew zapper pro controller. Works great!
