This is the shot that first got me interested in Astrophotography when a friend showed me his. Took my first crack at it this weekend and am still fussing with the processing but here goes. Please offer suggestions as I am actively working on this:

Ya that is one of those shots we all see and get inspired from , pretty well done.
Looks like your on your way to some more good shots.
Maybe the colors are a bit strong on this but thats personal taste.

Thanks Lawrie & Martin. Sure felt like a breakthrough moment.
Erik, I probably have overdone the color here. I definitely pushed everything a bit too far and am not satisfied with the result. The raw data looks good, just fussing with the processing.

Good image but I would say its very heavily clipped at the black end of the histrogram - which should be avoided

Hi briansay,
I agree with Tonk, the image is very clipped at the low lights. I suppose you did it to darken the background and to get rid of the noise, but it makes the image to look a bit "artificial". I would do a less agressive histogram stretch and would not clip the histogram at all. Also, increasing the color saturation very much adds much noise in the crominance. It should be done moderately.
It is a very good shot anyway

Thanks Tonk and Sergi. I agree with your observations. You are very accurate on both my attempt to darken and enhance color. I am still a little "coarse" in my photoshop skills and have yet to develop the patience that is evident in your work. I will give it another shot this weekend and will try to use a more delicate touch. :-)

Hi all. I took the feedback received here and tried to reprocess this image to look more natural. Please let me know what you think of this effort. No changes to the data itself although I plan to collect more soon.

I guess the old saying is true: "Less is More"
Its tough for a newbie like me to know when to quit trying to improve the image and to accept what you've got.
Thanks all. Hopefully I will be able to collect more data on this beautiful object as the season progresses.
