Bright Objects Catalogue (BOC) new
      #3351323 - 09/23/09 10:46 AM

A lot of (beginning) observers use the Messier list for finding relative bright objects. However, there are much more bright objects to see in the night sky, but aren't part of the Messier list.

Because we haven't found a decent, obvious list with bright objects, several members of the Dutch forum www.astroforum.nl made the Bright Objects Catalogue, or BOC.

You can find the list here: http://www.astrowiki.nl/index.php/Bright_Objects_Catalogue

Here you can find (in the attachments), the list for Meade Autostar: http://www.astroforum.nl/astroforum-s-boc-lijst-autostar-tour-t20871.html

Maybe a translation would be helpful:

Open sterrenhoop = open cluster
Planetaire nevel = planetary nebula
Sterrenstelsel = galaxy
Reflectie nevel = reflection nebula
Bolvormige sterrenhoop = globular cluster
H-II gebied = H-II area
Cluster met nevel = cluster with nebula

Demelza,

Thanks for the list. I'll look over it and see if any have slipped through the cracks in my own personal observing list. To me it always makes sense to do the bright, easy stuff first!

Clear Skies,
Mike

Google does a fine job of translating the BOC from Dutch to English.

- Orion Vista 10x50s (5 deg), Sears #6207 7x35 (7 deg), Jason #138 Statesman 7x35 (11.5 deg)

Yes, I'm addicted to telescopes and binoculars. I am getting help. Every time I look at the heavens, it helps.
