Galaxies with the 24"
      #3401432 - 10/21/09 01:20 AM Attachment (19 downloads)

Here's a few more images using the 24" Cassegrain at Yerkes Observatory. First up, M81, taken in March of 2006. This is actually my FIRST EVER astrophoto taken with a DSLR. It was a Canon 350D, mounted to an Orion Deepview 42mm EP, exposed 600 seconds at ISO 1600.

Next up, M82 taken in February of 2007. Same camera setup, 350D and 42mm Deepview. Exposed 1200 seconds, ISO 1600, hence you can see the camera sensor bleeding out in the red. Only had time for a single good frame, but I actually used this in a freshman research paper that year about CO, HCO+, and NH2 distribution in M82.

And here's NGC 891 from this year, May, using a Canon 450D through a WO 40mm SWAN EP. Two exposures combined (in addition), one of 800 seconds, and one of 1200 seconds (so 2000s total). A bit noisy, had the long exposure noise reduction off (it would have slowed me down insanely).

Thanks Erik! I admit that using the 24" is making me want to trade my C11 for a C14, I'm a bit spoiled by aperture.
