Tis the season IC 2118 new
      #3398063 - 10/19/09 01:34 PM

Here is my first try try at this incredibly faint refection nebula. I went with 2 min subs unguided. I see now that longer subs would have been in order. This object is not visable in a single raw, so I trusted my goto.

40x120 unguided
10 darks
20 bias

Canon 200mm l @ f 2.8
Canon 1000dh no filters
Vixen Sphinx

Ya im ready for that one too , very colorful and stars look tight but it looks kinda harsh in processing to show detail.

Yeah, looks too harshly processed to be of use. I hope my data came out a little cleaner, but I suspect I may have not shot enough either, as I only did 20 2 minute subs. I'll find out this week when I dig into it.

Also, I was able to see this nebula on my camera using 60 sec subs at f/5, so I frame it up how I wanted. I was using a CLS filter tho, maybe that helped? It was a canon 50d at ISO 12800 (yes, iso 12800 is useful for something!).

Alright, I looked at my data from the past weekend, and I only have 14 subs at 2 minutes. My PC decided to install updates and reboot around that time, oops.

Anyway, you're right, it is super faint, but I think your data could come out better. Here's a quick process of the 14 2 minute f/5 subs I had:

It could come down to light pollution differences?

This object is uber faint... I shot this at ISO1600 5 minutes with 24 subs last year and got a decent image. Still could have used more subs, but I liked the result.
