      #3401996 - 10/21/09 11:40 AM

Hi all, just wondering how many unitron 4" and 3" compact refractors are in members hands? Please post pictures and how you came about getting them. Will see how rare they are. Thanks, John

I guess there are not that many that cn members own as there is no response I must own more then 2/3 out there then... as JWW is only other I know of. Heck I can't even part one out(make a fortune and retire) as there is no incomplete ones out there then. John

I don't know how many and maybe its a fine scope. But when they came out my opinion was Unitron was going a direction that wouldn't work. Their long tube scopes were so elegant and the stubby just didn't seem to fit in. Reminds me of when Triumph motorcycles changed from their classic models to ones that emulated the Japanese competition. They soon went out of business.

Hi Bill, I like the traditional scope's too.You can't beat them for looks. So this is an edsel in the telescope world but I love it anyway as it's differant and still has unitron quality construction like all the older stuff. If you notice most modern bikes are going back too traditional styling as is cars (mustang/camaro/challenger). Maybe I lean towards the compacts as it was my first unitron, a 4" compact.I thought it was outstanding performer. Pictures will be coming on that one as I sold it too Mr Snyder in california about 5 years ago. He told me he was impressed with the optic's too. Thanks for input, John

Also I still think you can't beat a unitron EQ mount for looks and just a nice mount in all size's from 2" too 6"..That is for a classic scope, John

Amen to that. I have two Unitron's set up in the house just to display their beauty...The mounts in particular.

bill yes it is big life style change but unless you have lived here ..most people don't understand. Best kept secret in world..i was told once by a person i befriended on ebay and he/wife came on trip here from ny...don't ever leave that place he said. but sadly i'am ageing and winters are getting long. i need too kick my feet in white sand not snow someday. greatful for great life here tho.. lots of memory's and sorry for off topic discussion..back too topic, anyone out there have a compact unitron refractor If not then i would say truly rare bird like brian said. john
