info needed about Scientific mount !! new
      #3336510 - 09/16/09 12:32 AM Attachment (27 downloads)

Hello dear friends,

maybe I can buy this mount. But : I don't know anything about this mount !
Can one tell me the technical specs like axles diameter, how many teeth has the wormwheel, what telescope can I put on it ? I want to put a 90/1300 or 80/1200 refractor on it -
will it be okay for this mount, or is the mount to weak for that ?
Thanks for input !

CS Michael

Aaron,
you can send it to me and ill test it out for you.
i do not know what kind of mount that is but from
looking at the counterweight you should have no problem with a 100mm refractor or a bit larger.
do you have more pictures of full mount and tripod.
never seen one like it but it looks cool.
do you know the maker.
looks like 3/4" or 1" shaft.

That's a later model Edmund mount. I'm not sure, but
I think the shafts are 5/8" dia.

here is my older edmund mount and it has 1" shaft.
i thought that counterweight looked familiar.
not sure what size yours is but it does look smaller.
mine does ok with 100mm scope.

Hello,

I got newer informations now from the pre-owner : he said this mount belongs to a red Edmund 100/1500 mm refractor.
But he also says that the mount has a noticeable wide play in RA, but I think that can be fixed and it should be sturdy enough for my new 76/1250 mm baby ?

Kind regards Michael

I found a review here and what I read, it seems to be not a very good mount !?

hi Aaron,
while i do not have the play he speaks of in my mount
you do have to loosen then re tighten the knobs
every time you swing it to a new object or it will tighten up on me. just one of those things i am getting used to.
the great optics on mine make up for all the other
deficiency's.
plus it looks cool.
i had a lot of people checking it out at a star party last
week.
brings big smiles.
