Hi,
Does anybody knows where I could find a map of the features inside NGC 253? Last Saturday was the first time I saw this DSO and it was spectacular the level of details that can be seen in this galaxy with 10" reflector.
Thanks

If I remember right, I found several numbered features (knots) in Megastar, but never did anywhere else.
I just viewed it for the umpteenth time for our Observer's Challenge for October. I was at Furnace Creek in Death Valley and despite the -190 altitude, it looked pretty good once it got above the horizon. It was still pretty low but I was able to pick out the dark lane, several foreground stars, and several lumps (knots). I even tried the O-3 to bring out the knots and could still see 60% of the core though it washed out the arms. Wasn't able to positively identify the lumps I saw as particular numbered objects, but saw them nonetheless.
A great object.

My version of Megastar (5.0.12) shows nothing labeled inside of the plotted boundary of NGC 253. Nearby are many small faint galaxies (Mitchell Anonymous Galaxy Catalog members), but no objects clearly in NGC 253 itself. Clear skies to you.
