A Pair of Orionids and Star Trails
      #3402716 - 10/21/09 05:35 PM

I had my two DSLR's out this morning trying to catch some Orionids. I was only able to capture two. This is a composite of the two separate images.

And now the startrails from all my exposures this morning:

Focus shifted during that last shot.

Awesome.

Those last two star trails taken into dawn? Nice blue in them.

Hello xznfgzx,

Yes the last two were taken into dawn. I used this program to stack my photos to make the star trails: http://www.startrails.de/html/software.html

The frames towards the end started to turn blue and I guess the program averaged the background more into the blue.

Beautiful! That's a lot of photons in those star trails, and nice catch on the meteors- time well spent.

Thanks James!

I was actually just looking for an app like this! Big help.

The first two sky pics are also stacked, right? Did you use the same software?

Really cool stuff , I stared at the sky for a hour last night and only saw one tiny one.

Those star trails are intense.

I was able to capture 5 more Orionids this morning. I think this morning was better than last. One of the meteors went right under the Orion Nebula. Here is a composite of all 7 meteors:

Larger: http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p218/jcham21/Orionids2009-large.jpg

And here is a where all 7 meteors are located within the photo:

The composite was done in photoshop.

Thanks for looking,

The first two pics were made from just two frames layered together in photoshop. I don't think the startrail software can stack on the stars.
