Finally one clear evening on Monday after some very early snowfall. Target was NGC7023, due to adverse circumstances (among them 2 newly erected streetlamps at my favourite winter observing spot, a parking place in the middle of a forest) I managed to get only 11 subs with rather soft focus. Quite difficult to process, the dust clouds had a not very appaling yellowish-brown colour. 8"f4 Newt with paracorr, 11x5min subs ISO1600 with my canon350Da. Hi Martin,
It's a pity what you comment about the newer street lamps in the middle of the forest. In some years there won't be dark places anywhere in Europe.
Very nice image of the Iris nebula in spite of the lamps!!

That is a great image taking into consideration the difficulties experienced getting it.
Well done.

After all, we had a little success in talking with the right persons. They built a fountain housing there which, at least they claim, has to be permanently lit during the night for safety reasons . Since there is the possibility of obtaining the key to turn off the lights, I didn't want to dig deeper into the matter why lighting should have any effect on safety at a place rarely visited at night except by some astronomers. Anyway, I hope I can redo the iris with my friend's brand new Canon 7d soon for comparison.
