Are standard eyepiece caps/covers for the Fujinon 16x70 FMT-SX binos available? Does one go straight to Fujinon or the local supplier?
Maybe the better question is if anyone has done this already and who did you go through to get replacement basic parts?

I checked at a local dealer for those same parts for my FMR7x50 that I had just bought, and they would have to order them from Fujinon. I didn't bother as the price was more than I paid for the binoculars!

Call Baker Marine at 1-877-4 BINOCS. They are one of only two Fuji authorized repair facilities in the US and should be able to give you the straight dope.

Second that....dealing with Fujinon directly is a very frustrating experience.
I believe that Texas Nautical is still an authorized dealer for parts and service; I found them very helpful dealing with my 25x150 issues.

Was liberal use of RTV silicone between the objective eccentric rings and the eccentric barrels, and on the prism housing covers, on so many 25 x 150 I for "permanent" sealing "authorized"? During subsequent eventually inevitable maintenance after the demanding fishing-marine environment,(corrosion, rough handling, etc.), I have removed grease-RTV mixture from dozens of those, which considerably slows the job. I do not think that Omiya "authorized" use of RTV there. Perhaps the Bible, Talmud, Book of Mormon, Koran, etc? But I doubt that those get much attention in Japan.
The way to go on rework, if O-rings or other seals are not applicable or not available, is the WW II- Korean War vintage USN non-curing polysulfide "green wax, duck s..., etc". I am sure that Robert Osterberg (R.I.P.) or Scott Dexter or Bill Cook or Rod Satterfield (RIP) or the many other ex-OM's would agree. I sold some surplus Presstite to Ken Baker and his colleagues about 1972. They wanted it all, but I reserved some for my own use.
There was a 3M semi-equivalent available, but it was not so plastic and malleable. Is there a current equivalent to Presstite? The Army contractors used something with similar odor in tank periscopes of the M-48 and M-60 era .

I don't know about that, Gordon, there's some pretty weird stuff in Revelations. I used to laugh at your rants at the evil grey glue on prisms, but now I understand that any kind of goo must be a nightmare for a repairman trying to do a neat job, and keep himself and the lenses clean.
Although I find your posts more or less mind boggling with their optics shop and military bino particulars, I enjoy what I can grasp of them. Keep on posting-- you render us speechless, but we are reading. I will not be a complete whole person until I get myself a WWII binocular some day.
Have you ever run into any ex-WWII Japanese or German OM? Those guys must have been pretty good too, huh? Who had the best optics in WWII?

I bought my 16x70 Fujinon's used and they did not have eyepiece caps. I tried but was unsuccessful finding the Fujinon brand name replacements from any supplier. However, I did find generic caps from Orion and I'm very happy with them. I have a dial caliper and measured the outside diameter of the rubber eyepiece rings at 44mm.

Thanks for the info on the resellers and also the alternate option from Orion. I have the original bar type covers but like the newer versions that have individual caps.
Maybe you are right and the price will not be same but I will
check out the options listed so far.
If you have any other suggestions, please feel free.

Hi Ron,
Now, this is my opinion only. I have B&L, SARD, and SPENCER Optical WWII binoculars.
As one may not expect, the SPENCER is, by far, the best of the three. In many respects, it is so close to my FUJI 7x50 FMT-SX, that even I am astonished.
