Last night, I watched (using an 8" SCT) a dark feature rotate across Jupiter for more than an hour. The feature was in the southern part of North Equatorial Belt, possibly extending into the northern part of the Equatorial Zone. It looked quite similar to the dark feature (labeled as a blue festoon) in the right image at the top of

though I didn't see any colour.
The feature was best viewed between 8pm and 10pm EDT (0am and 2am GMT).
Did anyone else see this?

Hi George,
Yes! I saw the same spot you did on the early evening of the 19th of October. The spot was slightly south of the NEB and was indeed bluish green in color (to my eyes).

Good site for Jupiters features. Now I know what the Festoons are.

I've seen two or three of those in the last couple weeks, all in the NEB. One was so dark it looked like a moon shadow at moderate power.

George, I have seen the spot you mentioned on your post and made a sketch of it as well. I observed it on 10/31/09 at 5:05 U.T. when it transited the meridian. I also noticed a bluish green tint to the spot and saw a festoon around the spot as well. it was dark and very noticeable resembling a shadow of a moon. 154x was the highest magnification I could use that night. It would be great to see this object at a higher power. I'll also look to see if anyone has imaged it. I hope to view this interesting object again. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
