Another M31 ! new
      #3396067 - 10/18/09 11:53 AM Attachment (17 downloads)

This is the result of 15 x 2-min, 5 x 4-min and 2 x 5-min exposures at ISO 1000, over 2 nights, with an unmodded EOS 40D and Pentacon 300mm lens at f4, piggybacked for manual guiding on a C8 and Super Polaris mount.

DeepSkyStacker was used to register and stack the subs, darks and flats and Canon Photo Professional to adjust Curves.

Thanks for looking. Clear skies!

Nice shot using a 300mm lens and manual guiding!

I think a few more 4-5min subs @ ISO1600 would help bring out the outer area details.

Steve

Thanks for the comment, Steve. I will follow your suggestion and get some more subs for the fainter stuff.

Regards.

Ok, I've added some more subs as promised.

This now consists of 15 x 2-min, 10 x 4-min and 8 x 5-min exposures at ISO 1000, over 3 nights. Processing was similar to before - although the curves applied were a somewhat different shape (probably).

The additional 6 x 5- and 5 x 4-minute subs were taken on Tuesday night under beautifully dark skies that were punctuated by rapidly drifting cloud. Due to cloud interruptions it took over three hours to get those exposures!

Thanks for looking!
