XSi live view to Images Plus dim
      #3406041 - 10/23/09 11:23 AM

Hi all,

I tried to do some astrophotography last night, but when I went to live view in Images Plus to check focus and mount alignment, Vega, for example, was barely visible in 'zoom' mode. I checked the Autoguider output (different scope), and it was nice a bright, as usual. I then pulled the DSLR off it's T-mount, and I pointed it to an area of the observatory that was lit, and the sensor barely detected any light via 'live view'. I'm thinking that its the camera or other electronics, and not the scope being fogged over. The nights before, I had nice bright stars in my live view.

Can anyone help with the XSi?

thanks,

Paul

When using the live view mode, you can use the jog wheel near the shutter button to adjust the brightness. Note that it does this by adjusting the exposure settings. So if your exposure is pegged in one direction, it can take a lot of dial motion before you see any response from the rear LCD.

Check your manual in the Live View section where it explains how to do this.

If your XSi is like the 50D.. The live view image shows a bit more when you turn the dial to "bulb" and a high ISO. I think it's called "Simulated Exposure". This may or may not have been your problem though..

Hi guys,

I changed the exposure in Images Plus from Tv something to bulb. When doing focusing routines, the software changes settings and such, and things dont get put back, apparently. Now it seems to work, but this has happened before once or twice.

thanks Paul
