Celestron CG-5GT and Orion astroview question
      #3406151 - 10/23/09 12:22 PM

Hello,I have a question about a new mount. I have a 127mm Mak and a 80mm Refractor.the maksutov came with the orion astroview but now I have a 80ED refractor for astrophotography and that mount is not GT so I'd like to buy a Celestron CG-5GT mount (shipper) but I dont know if the dovetail base of the celestron is the same than the orion astroview
Hope you can help me and a better choice are welcome
Thank you

According to the Orion Web site, the current AstroView uses the same Vixen-style dovetail as other Orion mounts, which is the same as the Celestron CG-5 AS GT:

Orion AstroView Equtorial Telescope Mount

"Its newly designed equatorial head has a dovetail attachment plate similar to that on the Orion SkyView Pro, Sirius, and Atlas mount heads."

If you have a newer AstroView then it will be the same dovetail as the CG-5 ASGT.

Greetings,

The CG-5 ASGT comes with a Vixen style mounting Plate that affixes directly to the rear of the dovetail on your Orion127.

I have the 150mm and the set up is perfect.

High Point Scientific is running the CG5-ASGT out the door for $575 and I have found no one else that can touch that deal.

Good luck!

I found the same price at OPT but both sellers get about $57 for shipping to FL.
