Jupiter 2 - Red spot position
      #3406256 - 10/23/09 01:24 PM

Does anybody know what value I should be using for the Absolute Position on Jupiter to get the red spot in the correct place in the Jupiter 2 program?

The link sends you to a web page that indicates it should be around 140, but that doesn't tie in with Carts du Ciel's view of Jupiter. I haven't been able to check it visually as every time been out the spot has been on the other side.

Thanks

Hi KimB,

I think you should use 138 for the GRS. Yep just checked Sky and Telescope here. Check the next to the last paragraph in this article.

peace & clear skies,

Thanks for that Carl, looks like my Cartes du Ciel was wrong. I found an option to correct it under Preferences, Catalog and object parameters... , Planets tab.

Now if the weather clears and my telescope works, I might just get to see it tonight just before it disappears round the planet.

Good luck with the cloud situation, KimB. I know what you mean.

Yup.

138 degrees as Kolchak the Night Stalker said.
