Found this for sale locally, all I've been told for sure is it's an Edmund, and about 30 years old. I'm sure someone here knows what exactly it is. And, what might it's approximate value be?

This is the latter day Palomar Junior that succeeded the original by the 70s. How much? However much you are willing to pay. Around 100 bucks max IMHO...this was usually not as good as its ancestor optics-wise.

They are asking 500 bucks, which did seem to be very high. The seller says they inherited it from someone who always bought quality. It does look to be in good shape, but, not 500 bucks good.

If I were a collector trying to finish a family tree I might go the $500. But normally I wouldn't go above $250. These probably are more rare than say an RV6 which can be had for this price most of the time. Of course you have to weigh shipping risks and cost vs. pickup only etc. etc. Mike

I agree with Rod. I recently bought an older white tube model for $25. Although the coating on the primary was severely degraded. You could actually see through this mirror

I just picked one up for my Nephew for $60 with 3 Edmund EP's. $500 is a little inflated.

Here's a 1958 version, on a mount for $300. Don't know quite how comparable they are though.
Wad
[EDIT to add the details]
4.25", f/10 Newtonian Reflector on original EQ mount. Comes with finder scope and RKE 15mm eyepiece. This classic scope was made in 1958 (the date is indicated on the RA setting circle).

$500.00 seems way too expensive.

500?! Ha! Pass it by. You can get a good condition RV-6 for 300 bucks, easy.

If this were the white tube, I might agree. These? Not much in either the collectibility or useability departments.

The info is from the website of a local dealer. Sounds like people here on CN know better what date it might be.

The RA setting circle has a 1958 copyright and the DA 1965 copyright on all of the small mounts.
These 2 red tubes are from the late 1970's

I agree. I have a lot of the old catalogs and a bunch of Edmund scopes. The red tube did not come out until around 1978-79. The focuser is the later model, too. The MOUNT may be from the 50's OR 60's or even the early to mid 70's. The person who entered that information on the web site has no idea about this scope and is only guessing, at best. Last, it appears that everything was repainted. The legs and CW were NEVER sent out in black and the color of the OTA is the wrong shade of red. For $499.00 he can keep it and enjoy the pretty colors. If he can get that for a mixed up restoration then I should be able to get $1K for my ORIGINAL CONDITION scopes that I have! LOL
