Rust problem?
      #3409577 - 10/25/09 09:37 AM Attachment (9 downloads)

I took a look at the front element of my Coronado B10 diagonal, and noticed concentric rings in the filter. They are clearly reducing transmission a bit. Is this the dreaded rust problem, or is it something normal that I simply hadn't ever looked at before?

Hi Larry,

I'm not sure what your BF-10 has going on there. If it has degraded the image, then it is likely that the filter is degrading somehow.

AFAIK, the warranty was 5 years (at least that's what my BF-15 has) and it is presently at Meade for repair. They estimate sixteen weeks for turnaround on repairs as they ship it to Mexico for repairs after they get it from you. I guess they wait until they get a batch of items to be repaired and send them in a bulk shipment.

Here's what my rust problem looked like.

Thanks guys. It's definitely not like what you are showing, Ed. Just concentric rings and clearly reduced transmission.

The scope (Maxscope 40) is serial #567, purchased in December 2002, one of the original Coronado's with the small Borg helical focuser, and it's long out of warranty. I can try Meade for a repair, but since I've got to pay $$ to fix it, maybe Lunt would do it? I'll write them too.

BTW Ed, I remember Uncle Floyd on NYC cable TV around 1979-80. He was funny, especially when you were stoned.
