I had just bought a new ETX-LS and would like to try my hand at astrophotography. Other than getting the Meade DSI Pro what other equipment am I going to need to get the ball rolling? If you could make a list for me that would be great! All I ask is for it to be explained in laymans terms because I have only used a Dob and know nothing about sct's and it's related equipment. I have a few books coming but I would like to purchase all the basic things I'm going to need now so that when i'm ready to start taking deepsky pics I have everything I'll need. The only catch is that it's going to have to be equipment that comes from meade or celestron (recieved a very large gift certificate from a dealer! ) Thank you in advance guys!!

NUMERO UNO is a good book on the subject. I suggest Michael Covington's _Astrophotography for the Amateur_.

Thanks U.R, I just purchased that book yesterday. I know Learning A.P takes a lot of research and I plan on doing as much as I can! I figure I will start with the brighter targets like the moon and planets first and then work my way to star clusters and DSOs after I get the hang of it. I just want to make sure since I have the cash now, I get the basic equipment for what I eventually want to achieve with modest equipment first and then upgrade once I really know what I'm doing. When I started working on cars I knew nothing about the trade, within 2 years I was restoring classics at the shop I work at. I'm hoping to move along in the hobby the same way, lots of trial and error and lots of reading! Thanks again!

You'll also want to make a focusing mask of some kind. I'd also suggest using the DSI Pro as a monochrome imager until you gain some basic experience. Which filter set are you planning on using?

To whet your appetite suggest you try a piggybacked DSLR for some wideangle shots If I recall ETX-LS is Alt-Az only mounted so starfield rotation occurs and needs correction especially with longer exposures through the scope itself.

Thank you guys for your help I really appreciate it. I ended up changing my order and purchased a Meade series 5000 80mm Apo and a cg-5 mount instead though. I want a set-up that can grow with what I want to do and it didn't seem like the LS fit the bill. Now I just have to figure out what I'm going to need to get started, off to the Beginners Imaging Forum I go!!

DSLR imaging is alot easier than CCD imaging in my book. You can get alot more done with less stress and time. Just with my ETX-70 I've gotten some very decent images with an alt/az alignment and 20 seconds of exposure.
