I got a Mallincam a little while ago, mainly for star parties – to help get a little “deeper” than my 5” refractor normally goes. You know me…I love playing with our astro toys…so I captured a few frames to see what I could get imaging-wise.
All images taken with a Zeiss APQ-130, on an EM-200, with a OSC Mallincam Color Hyper Plus video camera.
First light: M82 I managed to catch a few 28 second frames (75 of them) with DeepSky Imaging, convert to regular TIFs, then process with CCDStack and Photoshop. It could have been a lot deeper, but I was pleased with the results for a "first light":

Second Light: M51 This was a little deeper at 550 frames @ 14 seconds, or just over two hours in total time. Image capture with DeepSky Imaging, processed in CCDStack and Photoshop: http://www.flemingastrophotography.com/astropics/interim/M51-LRGB3-MCHCP.jpg
Finally, Venus during the day: I stacked the Televue 5x Powermate along with the 2.5x Powermate, for an effective F/ratio of 96.15, or 12,500mm focal length. Keeping the darned planet in the FOV and manually focusing was...a challenge <g>.
I used 1613 frames from around 3600 in the avi: http://www.flemingastrophotography.com/astropics/interim/Venus2_20pct-1613.jpg
They were fun to do, and interesting to see what I could get in this format.
Regards...Neil

M13 I owe this one to Don the Admiral sailboy. I had not planned to image M13 at all that night.

I really wish I could get a break in the weather around here. Seems like almost all my weekends are cloudy.

OK, not the most impressive image, but clearly visible is the jet coming out of elliptical galaxy, M87. This is thought to be caused by a black hole. That makes it pretty cool in my book. BTW, some of my astro buddies have been trying to catch a glimpse of this visually for a while, even with their large dobs, but so far, I don't think they have succeeded. I wonder if anyone has seen this visually? I think the IR output helps it show up on the Mallincam.
Data: Mallincam Hyper Mono, 6 seconds, Obsession 18 inch, Servocat Tracking. 4/29/06
