These are some images I got over break. I did quick processing jobs on my laptop until I got back home. Here are the finished versions.

I have tried a few new processing techniques centered around stacking in Registar. I have to say, I really like the results that it gives. Great program.

Click on image for large version. Image info when you load the large.

NGC 7331

The Crab Nebula

The Phantom Galaxy (M74)

Most excellent David!! Lately, that's about two months worth of captures for me... Processing looks great as well.

Thanks Gary,

I had 11 days out of the city. Was able to image 9 of those nights.

Cheers,

Great to hear you had cooperative conditions on your time away. I have never imaged anywhere but my back yard, I guess it's my comfort zone...

Thanks Sal,

I have to admit, I really didn't think that 85$ 50mm F1.8 would do that, but I am very impressed with its performance as well. What a sweet lens for so cheap.

Im lucky that I have dark skies to go to in Southern Utah. I am from there, but go to school in Salt Lake City. Make it back home whenever I can to image.

I was really surprised at how much came out with just 12 lights. That little lens rocks. I would recommend it to everyone lol.

Thanks David.

I have really noticed how shooting closer to the zenith makes a difference with these deep shots. Also what even a little LP can do to your background...

Beautiful results! If you wish to try out more post processing (easier than getting new field captures!) here is an avenue that could be worthwhile. Take your 50mm images (or the Crab) and extract the R channel. Play with it to enhance the visibility of your nebulae. Then use the R channel as Luminance (or Value, depending on your image editor) for recombining into a full color image. This should suppress stars in favor of Red nebulae. Basically you can extract channels either from RGB or from HSV. You end up substituting R for V, i.e. HSR. Like adding accents with an Ha capture. If in Photoshop (that I do not normally use, so not very familiar with it, you could try R from RGB in LAB mode so that you end up with RAB). Here is one that cooperated, otherwise normally overwhelmed by the rich star field:

I never tried this next one but why not? Extract a narrow Teal (50%Blue+50%Green) by colour selection to enhance the OIII regions in the Network nebulae. Basically it's pseudo narrowband imaging by post processing. I think the technique has loads of potential but little known. Anyway, the trials could keep you occupied for hours

Thanks Samir

Some of that is totally new to me, but I will definitely give those a shot to see how they work. Never crossed my mind to separate channels and edit the image that way. I may try it on the Cygnus shot as there is a lot of red nebulosity and a lot of bright stars. Will post the results when I get chance to try it

Cheers,

Excellent job David , the nifty fifty strikes again.

Those are all good shots but I do like the Milky Way shots best.

So, I decided after looking at some of Hiro's shots that my color choice was way off...here is another shot at the Sagittarius shot retouched, cropped, and rotated.
