Hi all, I am new to this particular aspect of Astronomy, having recently acquired (thanks to a generous neighbour) a 2.3m dome on a 2.4x2.4m (8x8ft) square base. All is needs is a shed to pop on top. It will house a G-11 and C9.25 mainly used for astrophotography. I am thinking of a 2.5m x 4m rectangular building 2m in height, with a raised floor under the dome for access. Does anyone have any ideas, or know where I can get some plans for such an observatory? Any help GREATLY appreciated... Thanks all. Robby New Zealand.

G'day Robby
Greetings to a fellow KIWI,welcome to Cloudy Nights and the Observatory forum in particular.
If I read your post correctly, you're looking at a raised floor under the dome, with a (separate?) warm room for your laptop etc.
The hard part would be building the dome (which you've short circuited-lucky devil), the rest should be pretty straight forward. If you have the skills and equipment, DIY, or look at modifying a kitset shed of the right dimensions.
You'll want a pier to attach your mount to, which will need to be isolated from the raised floor under the dome.
There are a number of books on building and setting up small home observatories, a google will pull them up.
Meanwhile browse the threads here for ideas too.

Hi Gavin, Thanks for your reply. I work in Newmarket, so it would be really great to come up one lunchtime and take a look if that was possible. This is certainly the style of observatory I was thinking of. Living in rural Waiuku we have a good night sky to the west and south.... Cheers Robby.
