More fun with the AT8RC!! new
      #3408265 - 10/24/09 02:05 PM

Yesterday the weatherman told me I should prepare for sense fog by 11:00. I figured that would give me time to 'experiment' a bit with the new scope. I started by tying to squeeze the Double Cluster in the frame, then swung over to Sculptor a bit after 10:00 as it was still pretty clear (75+% RH, but clear). Around 1:00am I'm starting to think I can get another target in! Horsehead here I come...
These are quick, and sleep deprived processing, but I had to post them..

Comments and suggestions welcome!!

Agree. Żour pictures are very sharp. Not only the telescope seems to work very well, but also the focus and guiding.

Looks outstanding and just some quick processing to boot! Says a lot about your photon capturing quality/skills if quick processing produces results like this for you.

I am getting ready to use mine for the first time. Was yours colimated out of the box?

Hey thanks everyone!! This was the first time I'd used the IP focus and I liked it, didn't get it as tight as it could be, but the focus routine is very good.
It was a very busy night ... Guider hang up a couple of times, but recovery was pretty quick. The targets kept rolling and the sky was clear.
The scope was collimated out of the box, I have not touched it. There is still a corner that is a little eggy, but not bad. Overall the AT8RC is a great scope, great buy! I do like the colors that are possible now... Focuser could be a bit smoother though.

Hi.

Do you have a place where there is a full size resolution of those images?

Thanks Max, These are some of the best from this scope so far, but the critical focus is still eluding me.
As far as larger versions... Not yet. This was fast processing and marginal focus. If can get clean them up enough, I'll post some larger versions as well.

Thanks gents!!

Bob, The horsehead is cropped just a little on the top and bottom for aesthetics.. You are seeing practically the full frame. (I love this scope...)

Nice work Gary. Focus looks a little soft on the Double but much better on the other two. Tighten it up nicely second time around.

Tom, Thanks for the response. You are right on the money with the focus, and I'm working to get it right. I'm trying the IP focus routine and it's still a bit Greek to me. Right now I have Sculptor in the frame again, after a boatload of focus frames. I still need to be convinced this is better/faster/cheaper than the Bahtinov mask...
