Hi all.Recently i started to use eqmod with pc direct mode (synscan 3.25) and am very happy with it. I just wonder is it needed to adjust date, time, location and make alignment using the hand controller before going to pc direct mode or it is enough to put the mount in home position, skip any settings on the hand controller and go to pc direct mode?

No. Put the mount in home position, set it Direct mode, and get EQMOD going...that's all there is to it.

Hi,
Is there a way to make the mount go to direct mode as soon as you turn it on? I'm asking because if you have a remote observatory, it would be ideal if the hand-controller went to PC direct mode by default. Is there a way to do that?
Thanks for your help,

I'm not 100% certain, as it has been almost a year since I got my G-11, but I think you have to manually put the controller into PC-Direct mode.
Seems to me that even if there were some way to hard code the handbox into PC-Direct mode, if you're building a remote observatory you're better off in the long run to get the EQDIR module from Shoestring Astronomy. I would personally feel a lot better about that setup myself as opposed to the HC in PC-Direct mode.

I also have not seen a way to put the controller directly in pc direct mode. Eqdir seems better solution for your goals.

The hand controller use forces the user to manually escape out of the "don't point at the sun" warning scroll, then answer or escape from the "Start From Park?" and the date, time, and other interogatories. PC Direct only lets the user avoid the EQDIR or similar RS232 to TTL step down, and gives the user a hand held pointing control in lieu of a game pad or other device.
Remotely operating the instrument really only works with the EQDIR and straight serial connection to the mount head.

I guess I can't appreciate remote operations; if I'm gonna fry my equipment, I wanna be there to smell it cook!

You can still use a gamepad, even in PC direct mode, and a wireless one is far better IMHO than the Synta HC, especially with another cable hooked to it.
