Hi,
There is (finally) some activity on the Sun. The sunspot group is large enough to see with 12x and getting bigger. My report and sketches are here in the Solar Forum.

Good work! I would be interested to know how you would describe the solar image when seen through the Baader astrosolar filter you used, particularly the colour, brightness and contrast.

Thanks, Mark. To answer your questions, the Sun and background space appear in shades of gray with the Sun brighter towards the center and duskier at the limb and space a dark gray. Sunspot umbrae can appear black to gray with the penumbrae appearing gray.
Brightness and contrast vary with transparency and seeing but the brightness and contrast are very good under decent to good conditions.
I think that Baader Astro Solar film is good stuff.

AR 1029 continues to impress in the white light binocular view, although it will soon rotate out of sight. I made this sketch (scroll down) today, Oct. 29th, as the active region rotates with the Sun close to the solar limb.
