AR11029, October 26th 2009 new
      #3411577 - 10/26/09 10:08 AM

Lots of high cloud interfering with the view today but I did manage to grab a few shots. Here's the first, a mosaic of AR11029...

There's another region close by which I got a capture of. Lots of flare activity seen too.

Here's another taken at a shorter f-length which should form part of a mosaic which I'll post later. A bit later on from the first image this one, and shows some significant changes to the appearance of the region. The underlying plage was mixed with flare activity at this stage making imaging quite tricky. Keeping the exposure levels balanced so as not to oversaturate the chip, really pushed back the levels for the surrounding region.

What is notable about the first image is the presence of several "Ellerman Bombs"; small bright dots which appear for up to several minutes. When I saw my first one, I was a little surprised at their brightness and small size. They are sometimes seen near the edges of sunspot umbrae or in active regions which are experiencing rapid growth. Clear skies to you.
