As per Messier objects, I still use The Messier Album. Ah--I'm so old!

I ordered Deep Sky Companions: The Messier Objects and Hidden Treasures from Amazon this week because of this thread. I've actually wanted them for a long time but this pushed me over the edge.
I need to stop reading here for a while. It's too expensive.

The O'Meara books really are nice. Many books will provide a photo of each object they present, which is good, but the drawings that O'Meara puts in his books are much more useful. They show you pretty much what you can expect to see in the eyepiece. A few other books do this too, but not as well. This can be a big help to a beginner.

The only Stephen O'Meara book I have is Hidden Treasures and I like it.
As to Messier objects, I own and recommend Ken Graun's "The Next Step - Finding and Viewing Messier's Objects".
Here's a *L*I*N*K* .

I have both O'Meara's and Graun's Messier books. I appreciate O'Meara for the descriptions and the sketches and the...inspiration. However, I prefer Graun's book for the simple reason the uniform scale photos give me a much better idea of what something is actually going to look like through my eyepiece.

The uniform scale photos are exactly the reason I like and recommend the Graun book.
