NGC 7331 and friends
      #3414124 - 10/27/09 01:36 PM Attachment (19 downloads)

Am finally getting the CG-5 and autoguiding setting dialed in.
I also solved my framing problem by tweaking the guide scope alignment so that the DSI in the guidescope can see what the other scope is pointing at. This allowed me to shoot the same object on two separate nights and make a good guess as to were the object was centered on the big scope by maneuvering the object on the laptop screen in PHD.

Here is my first attempt at a beautiful spiral in Pegasus - NGC 7331.
I had no idea how photogenic it was. I was able to capture several little fuzzies around it as well.

24 subs of 5 min @ ISO 1600
Imaging scope = C8 XLT
Imaging camera = Canon 450D xsi
Guide scope = Meade 70mm az
Guide camera = DSI OSC
Guided with PHD
Stacked in DSS
Processing = PS CS4, Noel's tools, lab color mode for final saturation and color adjust.

Nice. Lots of details in the galaxy, and nice round stars

Very nice work on a dim target , that target has some really nice structure for sure.

Tracking looks good but the stars look a little flared at the corners , are you using a reducer/corrector?

Thanks guys !

Erik - no I dont have a FF for the C8. Its on my Christmas list this year, along with a new shorty Orion 80mm to replace my "purple haze" Meade $20.00 e-bay guide scope !
