Mathew,

nice article. More about Ms. Cormick you can find at:
http://www.farmcoveobs.co.nz/

Quote:

It's now known as 2009sa1 but in two years when the asteroid comes back into view Ms McCormick will officially name it.[/url]

This statement is inaccurate ... credit to discovery at this case goes to Ms Cormick, but to name it is usually long way to go.

First there must be a very well known orbital elements of this minor planet - this usually is after several years of observations, letīs say 3-4 returning to the opposition. Then it would receive permanent number which replace its provisional designation 2009 SA1. By that time she will enough time to think over her name proposal ...

BTW you can discover asteroid ( as I do for several years)even without expensive equipment just sitting behind your PC ... more about this you can read at my web: http://www.skaw.sk/enhuntpage.htm

Stefan
