ATIK Cameras- USA new
      #3401715 - 10/21/09 08:39 AM

Dear Astroboys and girls,
An ad in the December SKY & Telescope will announce that ATIK Cameras, one of Europe's largest selling Astronomical CCD manufacturers is back in the USA. In July, ATIK asked me to be their US sales rep and it's been a very interesting few months preparing a website, ads, and promotional materials for the next 'Euro Invasion'. I still have much to learn to be the representative I desire to be, but I would be pleased if you took a look at the just-completed website www.atik-usa.com

The site was designed by my friend Peter Proulx and myself with input from my European counterparts. ATIK cameras are designed in the UK by Steve Chambers (Artemis), and assembled in Portugal by Rui Tripa. As you will see on the website, we now have a sales support office in the US at Frederick, MD. We will be kicking things off at our booth at AIC at the end of the month.

If you or anyone you know is in the market for a high quality, lower cost CCD camera, let me help fulfill those needs. We run the full range from guide cameras to a 35mm sensor. The ATIK 314L+ (2/3") has the lowest read noise of any camera on the market today. If you would be so kind, would you please consider forwarding this along to imager friends for me.

As always thanks to all of you for your support. I promise this will be a one-time announcement. Hope to see you at AIC, WSP, NEAF, MWAIC, PATS, and TSP.

My very best, Warren

Good news. I was remarkin' the other day what a shame it was that Atik had disappeared from the good, ol' U.S. of A.

Whadido, put an extra space in there?! Anyway, thanks for paying attention and helping me out gents. Thanks for your comments Uncle Rod! We certainly hope to give it a go here in the good ol' USA. They are fine cameras at a good price, and have done very well across the pond. I look forward to spreading the good word here. I will appreciate you sharing this with other imagers, and thanks again guys! The site is up and running at www.atik-usa.com and the shopping cart may be ready as early as tomorrow. We offer the full range from guide cameras to a 35mm Large Format!

Best to you, Warren

Site looks amazing.
I am exstatic that they finally have better availability for the US..
I cant wait to pick up one of the 11000's!!! That is my budget goal right now..it is the only cam with that sensor for that low a price, unless a REALLY good deal was found USED...

One question though..
On the Atik11000 page,at the bottom under "what's included",it says 1.25" adapter...
How/WHY would they include an 1.25" adapter for a sensor that is nearly 1.4" wide?
This is quite the turn off...
Does a 2" adapter cost much,no..but,it would cost Atik even less to provide this..

Is it a typo?

I would probably still buy it when I get the funds...but,still..it seems like a really cheap way to cut some overhead..like a couple of bucks...

The site is absolutely wonderful though...I love browsing this site and SX's site. Now,if SX could get a solid US distributor over here..THAT would maybe even drive prices down even farther..

just my

Congrats btw!!!! Very fascinating stuff!!

Hi Brent, Sorry bud, just seeing this now- the site had been fixed. It does indeed include a 2" nosepiece! The body threads are currently M54 (Takahasi). I too am installing an 11000 on my NM remote setup. I am going to start w/ the One-Shot version and see if I'm satisfied as I am not an NB guy and the dark sky and high sampling should be great for OSC.

I mention M54 because as the 11000 becomes popular in the states, I could see a need to adapt to STL threads as several 3rd party accessories are based around them. I am pursuing the possibility of offering the 2.1" threads as an option.

Best to you all- Warren
